Talking Kriol in the Top End

In Topic 8 we look at Kriol, which is a non-traditional Aboriginal language spoken in a number of different varieties across the NT and Kimberley region. A recent workshop organised by linguists at the Uni of Queensland brought together linguists and Kriol speakers from across the Top End to talk about the different ways they speak.

This 30 min video includes excerpts from the workshop, mainly conducted in English, with snippets of staged Kriol conversation that deliberately explore regional variation between speakers from places as far apart as Kununurra, Ngukurr and Tennant Creek.
