A friend of mine who often travels to the Northern Territory has been accepted by some Aboriginal people to the extent that they have given him a totem, an Aboriginal name and taught him how to make digeridoos. They believe that although he is technically non-Indigenous, his spirit is Indigenous.
My friend told me the history of Songlines many years ago – a system of acceptance through knowledge; when tribes met along boundaries they would acknowledge each other through songlines. If newcomers knew the songs; the land, watering holes etc they would be accepted.
