Wadeye Songlines Database

The Wadeye Songlines Database is an online project that ‘documents the history, language and music of public songs and dances composed and performed at Wadeye (also known as Port Keats) in Australia’s Northern Territory. It focuses on three songsets of Murriny Patha people: djanbawurltjirri and malgarrin.’

The database itself contains detailed information of all the recordings that are available (including musical notation, English glosses and explanatory notes) as well as information about the totems, languages and maps of the Wadeye area.

As a collaborative project between community members, language and knowledge centres, musicologists and linguists, this project is a really inspiring look at how multi-discipline projects can use technology to record and maintain language and cultural practices for future generations.
